The Herald
From the outside, Trigony House Hotel has much in its favour. The walls around the front door of this small Edwardian country house hotel Scotland are covered in a thick coat of ivy. Above, an inscription is carved in the red sandstone, it is in large capital letters and offers some optimism: "The Lord bless thy going out and coming in", it announces. Underfoot, there is just the right depth of crunchy gravel to give the correct impression at this hotel scotland. Trigony is what picture postcards are made. One of its previous occupants was so impressed with the house that she stayed there for more than 100 years. She was Frances Shakerley, Scotland's oldest lady, who lived to be 107. But that was a long time ago. Today the house is a country house hotel Scotland in the care of Jan and Adam Moore, a husband and wife team, who took over 8 years ago. Inside, there is no shortage of ornate features, just what you might expect to find in a fine country hotel Scotland. The entrance hall is dressed from head to foot in Japanese oak panelling which follows on up the staircase where a large art deco window lights up the whole area. The house was totally refurbished just before the war when there was still a fair number of craftsmen about and simple, stylish and tasteful touches enhance the dining room and public rooms of this hotel scotland, but best of all is their outlook, which through an extensive pattern of windows, peer on to the garden & grounds. Directly above, the bedrooms of this country house hotel Scotland look further out on to the fine countryside of this often neglected part of dumfries and galloway in South-west Scotland. For the visitor, there are enough brochures and catalogues about the area's attractions to fill an old seadog's chest. Trigony is clearly not a country hotel Scotland that is in the mould of the corporate treadmill, but one that rests easily with peace, quiet and interestingly good food. It is also a dog friendly hotel & a pet friendly hotel While abroad, perhaps marinating in the South of France, the Moores have not escaped without acquiring some recipes. Consequently the menu often reflects footprints of their journeys. There is a strong influence towards natural food of the Elizabeth David school. Simple European peasant dishes, and authentic Spanish and French dishes take their place beside steak and kidney pudding or roast rack of Dunscore lamb. There is a leaning towards the organic grower. But more important, the grower that is not an intensive producer. Adam Moore is quite earnest about acquiring quality produce that is full of taste and he only deals with the small-scale organic farmer. But like the custodians of all country hotels Scotland, he can hardly go wrong with traditional dishes, having the best Galloway beef, venison and game right on his doorstep. And of course fish from the Solway which is but a 40-minute drive. This is an Ideal Hotel from which to get an Activity gift voucher or a hotel gift voucher
Note: this country house hotel in scotland is a dog friendly hotel.
